After check-in, you can rest and relax after your flight. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, do some light shopping, or simply acclimate to the surroundings. In the evening, we will gather for a briefing about the trek ahead and go over the necessary details for the days to come.
Today is free for you to explore Kathmandu’s cultural highlights. If you’re interested, you can join a guided tour to visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the historic Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), the revered Pashupatinath Temple, and the peaceful Boudhanath Stupa. In the afternoon, we will meet to finalize our trek preparations, check your gear, and answer any questions you may have. This day also gives you time to adjust to the altitude before starting the trek.
After an early breakfast, we will start our scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar. The journey takes approximately 7-8 hours and offers beautiful views of terraced fields, rivers, and traditional villages as we wind our way into the Solu region. Dhap Bazaar is a charming village perched at a higher elevation, offering the perfect place to rest and prepare for the trek. Tonight, we will stay in a local teahouse and get some rest before beginning our adventure.
Today marks the first day of trekking. After breakfast, we begin our trek from Dhap Bazaar, walking through lush forests and small Sherpa villages. The trail offers excellent views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Although the ascent is gentle, the terrain can be a little steep in sections. We reach Jhapre by the end of the day, a peaceful village with a perfect vantage point to view the distant peaks. We’ll rest here for the night, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of the region.
After a hearty breakfast, we continue our trek upwards to Pikey Peak Base Camp. The trail today ascends gradually, and we pass through dense forests of rhododendron and oak, enjoying the cool mountain air and the serenity of nature. As we gain altitude, the views of the surrounding mountains, including Everest and Kanchenjunga, start to reveal themselves. After a 5-6 hour trek, we reach the base camp, where we’ll stay for the night in a local lodge.
Today is the highlight of the trek as we summit Pikey Peak at 4,065 meters. The early morning hike up the peak rewards us with a breathtaking panoramic view of some of the highest mountains in the world, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. After soaking in the spectacular views, we descend to Jasmane Bhanjyang, a village located at 3,549 meters. This descent offers a chance to relax after the exciting summit day while enjoying the peaceful mountain environment.
Today’s trek is a bit longer as we descend towards the village of Junbesi. The trail passes through verdant forests, picturesque villages, and terraced fields, offering a glimpse of the daily life of the Sherpa people. Junbesi is a beautiful village known for its traditional stone houses and peaceful atmosphere. We’ll spend the night here, enjoying a well-deserved rest after the challenging days of the trek.
Today is a rest day in Junbesi, but there’s plenty to see and do. You can take a short hike to visit the renowned Thuptenchholing Monastery, located above the village. The monastery offers not only spiritual insights but also fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Alternatively, you can explore other Everest viewpoints or simply relax in Junbesi and enjoy the serene beauty of the area. This rest day is essential for acclimatization before continuing our journey.
Today, we make our way towards Phaplu, a small town in the Solu Khumbu region. The trail is mostly downhill, passing through forests, fields, and small villages. The hike is relatively easy, and it takes about 4-5 hours to reach Phaplu, which is also the location of an airstrip. Upon arrival, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the village and interact with the locals. This will be our last stop before returning to Kathmandu, where we will rest and prepare for the final leg of our journey.
After breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu from Phaplu. The journey takes approximately 8 hours, and along the way, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the scenic drive through villages, terraced fields, and the beautiful countryside. Once back in Kathmandu, you can relax and unwind. This evening, we will have a celebratory dinner to mark the end of our trek and reflect on the unforgettable experiences we’ve shared together.
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, we will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. If you have extra time, you can explore more of Kathmandu or do some last-minute shopping. Thank you for choosing Himalayan Escape Adventure, and we hope to see you again on your next adventure in the Himalayas!
The Pikey Peak Trek is a stunning, off-the-beaten-path trekking adventure in the Everest region of Nepal. Situated at an altitude of 4,065 meters (13,337 feet), Pikey Peak offers panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and the Annapurna Range. This relatively less crowded trek is perfect for those who want to experience the beauty of the Everest region without the crowds found on more popular routes like the Everest Base Camp Trek. The trek takes you through picturesque Sherpa villages, lush forests, and vibrant rhododendron blooms, offering a unique cultural and natural experience.
The Pikey Peak Trek is considered to be a moderate-level trek. While the altitude is not as high as Everest Base Camp, trekkers should still be prepared for some steep climbs and long trekking days. The trail offers a mix of gradual ascents and some more strenuous sections. It's suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness and prior trekking experience. However, even beginners with good physical fitness and preparation can complete the trek. It’s important to acclimatize properly to avoid altitude sickness, as some parts of the trek reach over 4,000 meters.
The best seasons for the Pikey Peak Trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. These seasons offer clear skies, moderate temperatures, and excellent visibility for the panoramic mountain views. Spring brings vibrant rhododendron blooms to the trail, while autumn offers the best trekking conditions with stable weather. Winter (December to February) can be too cold, with snowfall, making the trail more challenging, while the summer monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rain, which could make the paths slippery and less accessible.
The Pikey Peak Trek typically takes about 7 to 9 days, depending on your pace and acclimatization needs. The itinerary includes several days of hiking, with a good balance of challenging ascents and easier descents. You will also have time to explore the local Sherpa villages and take in the cultural sights along the way. Himalayan Escape Adventure customizes the itinerary to ensure a comfortable trekking experience while providing enough time to adjust to the altitude.
Some of the key highlights of the Pikey Peak Trek include:
